Palazzo della Signoria (or Palazzo Vecchio), symbol of Florence

Palazzo della Signoria, named also the Old Palace, was built by Arnolfo da Cambio and followers between 1298 and 1314.

At the beginning it was the headquarters of the Priors, or heads of the Guilds.

Later, it was the temporary home of the Medici family.

When Florence was the capital of Italy (1865-1871) it was the seat of the Chamber of Deputies.
Since 1872 it has been the City Hall.

Visitors may admire: Salone dei cinquecento, Sala dei Dugento, Sala dei Gigli.
