Dante Alighieri, one of the fathers of the Italian language Dante Alighieri was born in 1265 in Florence. During his youth he met Beatrice Portinori and he loved her, but his love was opposed. In 1285 he married Gemma Donati and after five years Beatrice died. Dante deeply lived the politics and sided with the White Guelphs. For this reason he was exiled. He wrote "Divine Comedy", an allegoric representation in which Dante condemns the corruption of the Florentine political life and the temporal power of the Church. In 1321 Dante died in exile in Ravenna. Back to home |
